
The supreme court Monday decided tht the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Dr. P.b>Jayasundera has acted in a curupted manner in transferring shares of the Sri Lanka Marine services Company to the Jouhn Keels Holdings Ltd., in the year 2002. The Lanka Marine Services Company is an establishment owened by the Ceylon Petrolium corporation. The Supreme court announced this decicion giving its verdict on a petition filed by Presidentila Advisor and a former parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara. Mr. Nanaykkara has stated in his decision that the transfer prceedure of shares lacked transparency. He has also claimed that the loss for the government on this transfer amounted to Rs. 1.2 billion.
Announcing its verdict the Supreme court ordered Dr. Jayasundera to pay a penalty of Rs. Five Hundred Thousan to the government. While invalidating the transfer the SC also ordered the John Keels Holdings to return back to the government the land amounting to eight acres within one month.
