The Centre for Policy Alternatives filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court today (Sept. 05^th), seeking an order for the nullification of the gazette containing amendments to emergency regulations.

Published on August 05^th, the amended law empowers the Defence Secretary to detain a suspect for a lengthy period, the petition claims, in a move to curtail powers of magistrates.

The petitioner also seeks an injunction against the detention orders.
