
The Sri Lankan delegation to the 9th Session of the UN Human Rights Council led by Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Disaster Management and Human Rights arrived in Geneva, Switzerland on September 03rd. The Session is to be held from 8th to 26th of September. Yesterday (Sept. 04th), the delegation met with a number of key officials to brief them about the situation in Sri Lanka and the government´s efforts to promote and protect human rights. The meetings included sessions with Nigerian Martin Ihoeghian Uhomoibhi, President of the Human Rights Council, Anders B. Johnsson, Secretary-General of the Inter Parliamentary Union, and Brunson Mckinley, Director General of the International Organization for Migration. The Sri Lankan delegation is expected to meet with newly appointed UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay today.
