The Supreme Court today (Sept. 04th) granted leave to Sirasa Media Network to proceed with a fundamental rights petition it has filed against a group, including government Minister of Labour Mervyn Silva. According to NethFM courts correspondent, notice has been issued to the minister, the SSP of Peliyagoda and the other respondents to appear before the court on December 04th. The petition seeks a SC order to Minister Silva against disrupting duties of officials of Sirasa Media Network. Meanwhile, five more FR petitions have been filed at the SC against disrupting of duties of Sirasa Media Network´s camera crew at an official function some weeks ago. The petitioners are the Free Media Movement, the Working Journalists Association, the Human Rights Institute and the Centre for Policy Alternatives.
