The leftist JVP has now lost 15 of the 39 MPs it originally had at the formation of the UPFA regime.

The first to leave the party was S. Amarasinghe, followed by Nandana Gunatilake.

Wimal Weerawansa and nine other MPs broke away and formed the National Freedom Front, which was later joined by woman MP Anjan Umma.

Wasantha Samarasinghe resigned to contest the recent provincial polls, and the latest resignation came yesterday (Sept. 03rd), in which Anuruddha Polgampola vacated his position.

The party presently has only 24 parliamentarians.
