Heavy fighting continues in K´nochci

Heavy fighting continued for the third day yesterday (Sept. 03rd) between the Army and the LTTE after the former destroyed an enemy bunker line located between Nachchikudah and Akkarayankulam in Kilinochchi.

According to sources in the Wanni, the 58 Division of the Army destroyed the bunkers, killing 52 Tiger cadres and 13 soldiers.

Seven soldiers are missing after the clash, said military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara.

He also said that the bodies of 20 LTTE cadres killed in fighting at Nachchikudah were handed over to the ICRC.

The army received the bodies of 19 soldiers yesterday, and eight of them have been identified.

A soldier died yesterday afternoon at Sarasalai in Jaffna when an armoured vehicle was caught up in a landmine blast.

Two other injured have been admitted to hospital.

According to NethFM News special correspondent Dilshan Sandakekulu Madawala in the Wanni, the LTTE was preventing civilians from crossing over to cleared areas.

Some of them are being kept in cells, he reported.
