The Army Headquarters is to handover 199 of its deserters to Welikada Prison in Colombo today (Sept. 03rd).

The military court has sentenced all these ranks to prison terms, the minimum being three months, for being absent without leave from service, it said in a statement.

Yesterday the Prison took charge of a group of deserters, who had not even made use a general amnesty declared a few weeks ago, said the Army´s Legal Directorate.

More such ranks will be arrested and court martialled, the statement added.
